NEW AMIC REINSTATEMENT AND REDUCED FEES POLICIES

New policies for reinstatement and reduced fees were approved at the June 12, 1999 Board meeting. For your information these policies are listed below.

REINSTATEMENT POLICY

For information AMIC By-law #1 dealing with nonpayment of fees and reinstatement is provided below:

REDUCED FEES

  1.   Retirement
  2. The AMIC By-law provides for a Retired Membership category.

    Retired Member:

    Retired member status is for those persons who have been involved in arbitration or mediation but no longer perform any arbitration or mediation related functions but who wish to remain involved in a Regional Association. This status may be conferred by the Institute upon any member who has applied for and complied with the requirements of status.

    The requirements for this status are:

    1.   The retired member chartered fees shall be 25% of the annual chartered member fees.
    2.   A waiver of chartered fees may be granted under one of two following options:
      1.   Age plus number of years of enrollment in the AMIC total 75 or more, and the person is no longer practicing as an arbitrator or mediator for financial gain.
      2. Annual confirmation of status is not required.

      3.   Age plus number of years of enrollment in the AMIC total 75 or more, and the gross annual income earned from work requiring arbitration and/or mediation expertise is not greater that $15,000.
      4.   Annual confirmation of status is required.

 

  1.   Leave of Absence
  2. The policy for leave of absence is:

    1.   The benefit period for reduced fees during a leave of absence will cover a minimum of one year, and not normally exceed five years.
    2.   The gross annual income earned from work requiring arbitrator and/or mediator expertise must not exceed $15,000. during the waiver period.
    3.   The chartered member fees on approved leave of absence shall be 25% of the annual chartered member fees.

The Charter Designations (C.Arb. and C.Med. - en français Arb. C. and Med. C.) are granted by (and solely the trademarked property of) the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada Inc., now known by the new name of ADR Institute of Canada, Inc..
