CHARTERED ARBITRATOR

C.Arb (Chartered Arbitrator) application form is available from the Arbitration and Mediation Institute Inc. office (in electronic formats - MS Word, WordPerfect or hardcopy) or ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. (formerly: Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada, Inc. [AMIC] & Canadian Foundation for Dispute Resolution [CFDR]) office (MS Word electronic format or hardcopy) or may be downloaded and printed from this web page in .pdf format. Simply "click" on the words C.Arb. Application Form. The form will explain what is required to apply for your C.Arb. Designation.

The requirements for a C.Arb. include completion of the Arbitration Level I and II courses, and successful submission of a mock award as part of the How to Write a Decision course.

The practical experience requirement is completion of a least five fee paid arbitrations as either chair of an arbitration panel or as sole arbitrator.

After completing the application, please send it to the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Manitoba Inc. office along with the applicable application fee. It will then be reviewed by the AMIM Regional Accreditation Committee. An interview with the candidate is then conducted by the committee. The candidate's application is then forwarded to the AMIM Board of Directors with the Regional Accreditation Committees recommendaation. Upon Board approval, the application goes to the National Accreditation Committee. If approved by the National committee, it goes to the National Board of Directors who will formally grant the designation.

Holders of a C.Arb. must pay annual accreditation dues, which currently are $150.00 plus GST ($10.50).

Currently C.Arb. holders are listed on the ADRIC (formerly AMIC & CFDR) web page along with a short biography.

And yes, you do have to be a member of your regional (in this case AMIM) and national (ADRIC) Arbitration and Mediation Institute.
