Jim graduated in 1970 from the Manitoba Institute of Technology with a diploma in Building Engineering Technology, became a Certified Engineering Technologist in 1972, and served as President of the Manitoba Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists in 1992. In 1980, Jim received the designation of Registered Specification Writer with Construction Specifications Canada upon completion of examinations and thesis. In 1992, Jim earned a Diploma in Arbitration from the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Manitoba and has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute. In 2002 Jim qualified for the designation of "Gold Seal Certificate - Project Manager" from the Canadian Construction Association in recognition of his construction project management training and experience.
Over the past 30 years, Jim has worked continuously in the construction industry in general contracting, consulting engineering and architecture, professional project and construction management, as well as an Owner with a Provincial Crown Corporation. This has included a great variety of project types and sizes from design development, through contract administration, and to facilities completion on projects across Canada, into the U.S., in Central America and Mexico, and Egypt and Dubai.
Jim's particular areas of expertise are in management of design and construction, contract development and interpretation, expert witness, claims development, defense and evaluation, arbitration, scheduling, specifications, estimating, project controls (financial, technical, reporting), inspection, testing and coordination.
