On July 24, 2000 there was a Special General Meeting of all members of the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada Inc. (AMIC), which was held to discuss and vote on:
1) the changing of the name of the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada Inc. (AMIC), to ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. (ADRIC)
and
2) the amendments made to the By-laws which would allow for a new "corporate membership" category at the national level.
These bylaw amendments were made necessary by the desire of Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada Inc. (AMIC) and Canadian Foundation for Dispute Resolution (CFDR) to join forces and become one larger more all encompassing ADR organization.
As a result of the votes cast, both by those in attendance and by proxy, the motions to change the name of the organization and the new bylaw amendments both passed.
The Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada Inc. (AMIC), and the Canadian Foundation for Dispute Resolution (CFDR) have now been transformed into ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. (ADRIC).
The bylaw changes now allow for a "corporate membership" category which has eased the joining of the two organizations into one.
We have come to call this organizational blending a "joinder".
Below are the new bylaws, in English and French.
